Nissan Plans To Present Affordable Sports EV Cars, Silvia Successors Or Centers?

JAKARTA - Nissan is in the main spotlight in the Japan Mobility Show (JMS) 2023 by presenting a series of 'Hyper' concepts. One of the things that caught the public's attention was the Hyper Force which claimed to have up to 1,341 dk of power, signaling the evolution of GT-R into a supercar version of electric power. This opens up opportunities for Nissan to launch another electric vehicle that provides a fun driving experience.

Ivan Espinosa, Vice President and Product Strategy & Planning Nissan, conveyed the manufacturer's intention to present entry-level cars that will be under the Z and GT-R models. This step was taken to get closer to young consumers, especially those who are less interested in today's car trends. He highlighted how his love for cars seems forgotten, and needs to be revived.

"I think car manufacturers, in general, have forgotten their love for cars. Customers are increasingly losing interest in cars," said Espinosa, as reported by Top Gear, Saturday, October 28.

Espinosa also stated that although a choice like a hot hatch could be an alternative, he was more inclined towards the development of electric sports cars that were smaller and more affordable.

Talking about this possibility, reviving a classic model like Silvia, which can be part of the electric sports car segment, could be an attractive option for Nissan.

In addition, Sentra's successor launch is also a possible option, given the current generation was introduced in 2019 and is likely to be updated in the next few years.

Despite the upcoming models, Espinosa has a dream of keeping the entry-level sports car with the standard variant and under the NISMO flag, similar to Z and GT-R.

"Ideally, my dream as a product planner is to keep these three elements as our sports car offer. High-end GT-R with the NISMO variant, as well as Z, as well as entry-level cars. This could be an ideal sports car offer," concluded Espinosa.
