Safety Belt Problem, Hyundai Recalls More Than 2,000 New Kona Units

JAKARTA - Hyundai recently introduced an update to Kona in the US as a model in 2024. However, the debut of the latest version of this SUV did not run smoothly.

The North American Hyundai Safety Division found that the model had a flaw in the rear seat seat seat seat system which prevented it from being used properly, so a recall campaign needed to be carried out.

According to a report from Carscoops on Monday, October 2, there were 2,354 units of affected 2024 gasoline-engine vehicles. These vehicles were produced between June 19 and September 2, 2023.

This problem was first detected by the Hyundai inspection team at the port, which found that Kona's model arrived in the US partially separated seat belts. This causes the belt to not be extended or withdrawn properly.

After identifying these production defects, the South Korean automotive manufacturer conducted further investigations to determine the number of vehicles affected. Hyundai also conducted an inventory audit with its supplier, Joyson Safety Systems Korea, and found 31 disabled seat belt retractors in the latest Kona.

This seat belt is having problems with inappropriate pin assembly, and this problem only occurs in the right back seat. Symptoms of this production defect are when users hear noisy sounds while trying to extend the seat belt.

As a result, passengers sitting in the right back seat cannot properly install seat belts. This increases the risk of injury for passengers in the event of an accident.

Hyundai has taken action to recall the affected models, and they will contact vehicle owners on November 21. Owners are required to take their vehicles to the nearest Hyundai outlet to check their seat belts and replace them if needed, at no additional cost.
