JAKARTA - Rivian, an automotive company in the United States, has officially collaborated with Tesla to expand access to the Supercharger charging system. Starting in 2024, the Rivian R1T and R1S models will be compatible with Tesla Superchargers in the United States and Canada.
With this agreement, the R1T electric pickup and R1S SUV will be able to use North American Charging Standard (NACS) charging standards starting in 2025 without the need to use an additional adapter.
In addition, this agreement also includes the development of the latest platform, namely R2, which will be present in a more compact and affordable version for Rivian's latest electric car models which are planned to be launched between 2025 and 2026.
Rivian also plans to continue to expand their DC fast charging network, known as Adventure Network, across the United States. The move aims to support the development of electric cars and decarbonization efforts.
Rivian's CEO, RJ Scaringe, expressed his joy at collaborating with Tesla to accelerate the development of electric cars and ensure compatibility with North American charging standards.
"By adopting North American Charging Standards, our customers can use Tesla's extensive Supercharger network while we continue to build our Rivian Adventure Network. We are committed to accelerating electric vehicle adoption," Scaringe said in an official statement on Rivian's website on Tuesday, June 20.
Rivian joins Ford and General Motors (GM) in using Tesla's Supercharger facilities for their latest models in the future.
