Alert 3 Flood Anticipation Excavators, Batam City Government Calls The Worst Point Needs Permanent Handling

JAKARTA - The Batam City Government's Department of Highways and Water Resources (DBMSDA) has alerted three heavy equipment units in the form of excavators to anticipate flooding in Batam.

Head of the Water Resources Division (SDA) of the Batam City DBMSDA, Wan Taufik, said that high-intensity rain caused several areas to be submerged in puddles, such as in the Tanjungiayu, Duriangkang, Seipancur areas, and several other points.

"One of the worst points, and it does require permanent handling at WR Suprapto to the bridge to the Seibeduk sub-district office," said Wan Taufik in Batam, Tuesday, November 21, which was confiscated by Antara.

He said the Batam City Government always strives to anticipate flooding and collect data on flood points.

Wan Taufik conveyed that to resolve the impact of the flood, his party cleaned the flow of clogged drainage from garbage or soil and cleaned roads from mud deposits.

He said that currently the width of the trench is 6-7 meters, and in order to optimally accommodate the discharge of ditch water, it must be widened twice to 15 meters.

"That must be widened in order to accommodate the water discharge optimally, and prevent it from overflowing onto the road," said Wan.

He conveyed that the overflow of water that occurred at a number of points was caused by narrowing, and the presence of high tides.

"The long-term solution is that permanent repairs or widening of the flow of water are needed. There is quite a lot of budget. We have proposed it but it has not been approved," he said.
