The political status of the Palestinian state is still being debated today, amid endless aggression from Israel. Although Palestinian independence has been recognized by several countries, there are also countries that do not recognize Palestine until now.

Actually Palestine has been recognized as a de jure sovereign state under Middle Eastern law. But Palestine has no complete control over most of its territory, because the majority of its land is occupied by Israel. Palestine only occupies key territory that belongs to the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

From year to year, the territory of the Palestinian state has become increasingly narrow because it has been eroded by the attack on land annexation by Israel. Palestine is still trying to find recognition as a country that is officially recognized by all countries in the world. So which countries do not recognize Palestine?

Based on World Population Review data, up to now there are 139 countries that have officially given bilateral recognition to the Palestinian State. This recognition was obtained after the Palestinian National Council declared independence on November 15, 1988 in Algeria.

But on the other hand, there are a number of 55 countries that do not recognize Palestine as an official state. Even some large or agricultural countries still do not recognize Palestine. These countries are the United States (US), Britain, and France, which do not want to recognize the Palestinian state until the conflict with Israel ends peacefully.

The US does not recognize Palestinian independence because the country nicknamed Uncle Sam is in close relations with Israel. The country led by Joe Biden is known to have been a strong supporter of the zionist nation since its founding in 1948. Support from the US has continued for decades of conflict on Palestinian soil with Israel.

The US government is known to have contributed massive economic and military assistance to Israel over the years. Many US policymakers consider Israel a major ally in the Middle East.

Apart from the US, here are countries that do not recognize Palestinian independence:

In 2011, the President of Palestine submitted a request for membership of the Palestinian state at the United Nations. However, this country has not yet been accepted for sufficient recognition as a member of the United Nations. The number of countries that recognize new Palestinians is 138 out of 193 countries.

In addition, in order to become a full member, Palestine must receive a recommendation from the UN Security Council consisting of five permanent members. The five countries are Russia, Britain, the United States, France, and China.

In 2012, Palestine was given the status of a non-member observer state at the United Nations. Palestine is only given the right to speak at the UN General Assembly, but has no voting rights.

Those are some countries that do not recognize Palestine until now. Until now, Palestine is still fighting for its right to get official recognition as a country of UN member countries and around the world.
