The Governor Of East Java Emphasized The Importance Of The Train Crossing Door Crossing

The Governor of East Java (Jatim) Khofifah Indar Parawansa emphasized the importance of signs and latches that must be installed at each train crossing (KA).

"We express our condolences for the accident at the train crossing without a doorstop in Lumajang, which left as many as 11 victims dead and four seriously injured," he said in Surabaya, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, November 20.

Khofifah does not want similar accidents to happen again. So, according to him, this incident reminds the importance of the existence of doorstops and posts and their guards on each train track, as well as completing early warnings to the public through traffic signs.

"Palang pintu is also part of the early warning system. We must ensure together that cases of accidents at the doorstop without being guarded are minimized massively," he said.

Khofifah appealed to regents and mayors throughout East Java to complete train crossings with doorstops and posts and guards.

The former Minister of Social Affairs emphasized that socialization in order to increase social awareness for the community is also important.

According to him, if social vigilance increases, the public can maintain the safety of train crossings.

"To all elements of society and community organizations, let's jointly educate safe traffic," he said.

Referring to data from the East Java Transportation Service (Dishub), there were 1,300 railroad crossings, with details of 1,135 level crossings and 165 non-field crossings.

Meanwhile, in 2023 the East Java Provincial Government is in the process of building 37 units of doorstops using the Regional Development and Expenditure Budget Changes (APBD) in November - December 2023.

"There are several areas in East Java that still have many train crossings without latches and guard. This is our common evaluation material. It is important for us to immediately follow up together so that traffic safety is always maintained," he said.
