JAKARTA - United States President Joe Biden said on Tuesday that he was involved in daily discussions to ensure the release of hostages held by the Hamas militant group.
"Hang in there, we will come," explained President Biden, reported by Reuters, November 15.
President Biden said he was talking daily with parties involved in negotiations regarding the possible release of the hostages, but did not want to provide details.
After President Biden's remarks, the White House said the president's top adviser for the Middle East, Brett McGurk, was heading to the Middle East for talks with officials in Israel, the West Bank, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and other countries.
"In Israel, he will discuss Israel's security needs, the importance of protecting civilians in military operations, as well as ongoing efforts to secure the release of hostages, and the need to control violent extremist settlers in the West Bank," the White House said.
Previously, in a White House statement on Sunday, President Biden "unequivocally" condemned the hostage-taking by Hamas, including many young children, one of whom was a 3-year-old American citizen.
Separately, the families of Israelis held hostage by Hamas in the Gaza Strip began a five-day long march yesterday from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem to demand the government do more to secure their release.
