JAKARTA - The presidential candidate pair (readpres) and vice president Anies Rasyid Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar (AMIN) have stated their commitment to make changes in handling and solving the problems of climate change and the environment in Indonesia.

"Pak Anies and Cak Imin are committed to doing this, because the threat of climate change cannot be separated from the lack of maximum environmental-based handling in the country," said AMIN's Candidate Pair Spokesperson, Irvan Pulungan, quoted by ANTARA, Thursday 9 November.

Representing the AMIN pair in the Green Indonesia Green Leadership Ideas and Commitment Forum (Bedah Visi Misi Capres) in the Green Press Community (GCP) initiated by the Indonesian Community Journalists Organization or The Society of Indonesian Environmental Journalists (SIEJ), his party is committed to addressing environmental problems.

He gave an example when Anies Baswedan was Governor of DKI Jakarta, he was claimed to have succeeded in reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 26 percent in 2020. In fact, it exceeded the 30 percent decline target by 2030.

"This achievement was obtained through the principles that have been applied so far. In particular, completing climate change from the root of the problem," said Irvan, who was sent representing Anies in the forum.

In addition, his party emphasized the importance of collaboration to deal with climate change. Even when he was governor Anies had collaborated with various organizations, stakeholders, and invited city residents to be involved in mitigating climate change.

Policy making, he said, must always be based on data and science. One of Anies' steps when he was Governor of DKI issued Governor Regulation number 90/2021 concerning the Low Carbon Development Plan in Jakarta.

In the Governor Regulation, there is a Greenhouse Gases (GHG) Emissions reduction rule or a greenhouse gas effect of 30 percent by 2030. For this reason, balanced funding must be prepared so that climate mitigation and adaptation actions run as expected.

In compiling the vision and mission, said Irvan, Anies also asked for input from experts, including learning from other cities or countries that also face similar problems to implement policies into actions and allocate them in the budget.

Irvan also believes in the importance of campaign activities to control climate impacts, so that Indonesia can contribute to climate impact control internationally.

Therefore, he continued, the gap in knowledge between the central government and its sub-districts must be closed, therefore what is needed in finding solutions to the current climate crisis is in favor of the community.

Previously, SIEJ Secretary General Fira Abdurrahman said that the committee had officially invited three presidential candidates, namely Prabowo Subianto, Ganjar Pranowo and Anies Rasyid Baswedan or who represented the three, but two of them were unable to attend.
