JAMBI - Bukit Tiga Puluh National Park is one of the main habitats of Sumatran orangutans or Pongo Abelii in Jambi Province. This natural conservation area in Tebo and Tanjung Jabung Barat Regencies is estimated to be inhabited by hundreds of orangutans.

"The Jambi Province Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) noted that the natural habitat of orangutans in Jambi is in the natural landscape of Bukit Tiga Puluh National Park, where most of them are the result of releases by the team and in addition there are also dozens of orangutan children from natural breeding," said Head of Region II BKSDA Jambi Province Faried, in Jambi Wednesday, November 8, confiscated by Antara.

Of the hundreds of orangutans living in this habitat, he said, the team in the field found that 21 orangutan children were born in nature.

Currently, he continued, BKSDA has released many orangutans and in recent years around 204 have been recorded.

Since 2001 until now, he said, the Jambi BKSDA through the Bukit Tiga Puluh National Park has collaborated in introduction activities in the form of incorporating, bringing in, or moving orangutans in the central part of Sumatra such as West Sumatra, Riau, and Riau Islands.

"Currently there are more than 200 orangutans released around the Bukit Tiga Puluh National Park and the project is still ongoing," said Faried.

He said the largest habitat of Sumatran orangutans was in Aceh and North Sumatra (North Sumatra).
