Jokowi Receives Hendry Ch Bangun And Central PWI Management, Here Are The Results

JAKARTA - President Jokowi received the Chairman of the Central Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) Hendry Ch Bangun and other administrators at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. During the meeting, Hendry reported on the management of the Central PWI and the programs to be implemented, one of which was PWI's efforts to improve journalists' competence.

"We report that a new general chairman (in) the PWI Congress in Bandung was elected on September 25-26. Second, we report that we want to refocus on educational issues, improve journalists competence, and national insight of journalists," said the General Chairperson of the Central PWI, Hendry Ch Bangun, at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, after President Jokowi received it.

Furthermore, Hendry said, PWI conveyed support from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) and the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) in organizing Indonesian journalism schools and testing journalists' competence. Hendry said, hearing this, the President immediately followed up.

"Earlier, the President immediately called the Minister of Education and Culture to help PWI return so that what had been implemented first could run again," he said.

Hendry said that PWI discussed the socialization of the national press as well as the launch of Grha Pers Pancasila which will be held in Yogyakarta in November 2023. In addition, PWI also conveyed that the planned National Press Day event will be held in Ancol, Jakarta.

"Mr. President said that if later there was a shortage of the Yogyakarta Provincial government, the central government would help," said Hendry.

In addition, Hendry said that the meeting also discussed how the press responded to the upcoming general election (election). Hendry said the President appealed to the entire community to keep the election peaceful.

"It was said that actually now there is no problem, it's normal, cool, it is advised that all of us people participate in maintaining peaceful elections, which maintain the integrity of the nation and state, not dividing it," said Hendry.

"I think we accept that with our heart, we are actually not the press that imports, makes the atmosphere tense, the atmosphere becomes as if this is a hostile event," he continued.

Also accompanying President Jokowi in a meeting with the Chairman of the Central PWI Hendry Ch Bangun and the board members, namely Minister of State Secretary Pratikno.
