Gelora Supports Gibran To Be Prabowo's Vice Presidential Candidate, Here Are 3 Reasons

JAKARTA - Gelora Party Chairman Anis Matta supports Solo Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka as a candidate for vice president (readwapres) accompanying Prabowo Subianto in the 2024 Presidential Election contestation (Pilpres).

"The Gelora Party supports Mas Gibran as a vice presidential candidate (assisting) Pak Prabowo. The Gelora vice presidential candidate is Gibran," said Anis Matta as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, October 20.

He said there were three reasons why the Gelora Party supported Gibran as Prabowo's vice presidential candidate.

First, is Gibran, a figure who can continue reconciliation between Prabowo and President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

The second reason, Gibran will increase Prabowo's electoral strength in Central Java and East Java. The third reason is the pairing of generations, namely Prabowo is the oldest presidential candidate (candidate), while Gibran is the youngest vice presidential candidate.

"I think these three reasons have found relevance, especially when it comes to sharp reconciliation and division, whose potential will also occur in the 2024 presidential election," he said.

According to him, encouraging Gibran as the reading of Prabowo's assistant vice president does not mean perpetuating dynastic politics. He considered that in democracy, it is not known as dynastic politics, because everything was returned to the people.

He gave an example of the actions of Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) and Puan Maharani in politics, which were considered to be the continuation of the 6th President of the Republic of Indonesia's political dynasty Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) and President of the Republic of Indonesia-5 Megawati Soekarnoputri.

"AHY ran for the 2017 DKI Regional Head Election (Pilgub DKI Jakarta) as a result of losing and Puan was also not nominated as a presidential candidate, because this is her business with the people. Everyone has calculations, anyone wants a child, whether it's the president's son or the son of an ordinary person is the same," he said.

Therefore, according to him, in the electoral democratic system, there is no dynastic politics because everything is equal and depends on the people, whether the figure concerned is accepted or not.

Anis Matta also assessed that there should be no age discrimination to become a leader by eliminating the rights of young people. In fact, according to him, the voices of young people are contested in every election.

"So when people become voters at a young age, at the same time their rights cannot be eliminated to become leaders," he said.

According to him, the role of young leaders, is widely known in Islamic history and has succeeded, such as Umar bin Abdul Azis, the Umayyah Dynasty Caliph and Muhammad al-Fatih (Mehmed II), Sultan Ustmaniyah, Turkey.

He assessed that the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK) regarding the age limit of the presidential and vice-presidential candidates for 40 years or those who occupy positions elected from elections/pilkada on Monday (16/10), could be linked to the issue of President Jokowi's family so that his eldest son can run as a vice presidential candidate.

"The Constitutional Court's decision is easy to connect with family issues, but we must see this, not only in 2024, but also in 2029 and beyond. We must see this from a justice perspective," he said.
