Jakarta's Emission Test Ticket Re-applied November 1, PKS Asks For A Motorcycle Fine Of Only IDR 100 Thousand

JAKARTA - Secretary of the PKS Faction of the DKI Jakarta DPRD M. Taufik Zoelkifli invited the DKI Provincial Government and the police to re-implement an emission test ticket in the capital city. However, Taufik sees the need for relief from fines for motorbikes that do not pass the emission test. It is recommended that motorbikes that be ticketed are only fined Rp. 100,000. "As law enforcement, it is necessary to be given a fine for all types of motorized vehicles. But for motorbikes, it is not Rp. 250 thousand. It is enough Rp. 100,000," Taufik told reporters, Tuesday, October 17. According to Taufik, the amount of a fine of Rp. 250 thousand refers to the Traffic and Road Transportation Act, which is quite burdensome for motorcycle users. "In general, motorcyclists are middle to lower class residents. So 250 thousand is too heavy," said Taufik. However, what is clear is that Taufik emphasized that fines for vehicles that violate the provisions must still exist. "For matters of air pollution, all groups of residents must care. So motorcyclists must also be sanctioned if their vehicles do not pass the emission test," he added. Previously, the Head of the Transportation Agency, Syafrin Liputo, said that the ticket for vehicles that had not or did not pass the emission test that had again been in effect had been agreed with the Traffic Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya. "We are also coordinating with colleagues from Polda Metro Jaya, with Pak Dirlantas, as of November 1, we will again carry out a ticket for emission test violations," Syafrin told reporters, Sunday, October 8. Initially, the emission test ticket had been running since September 1, 2023. However, the implementation was only carried out in the first week and the Metro Police decided to stop it. Syafrin admitted that the emission test ticket had been temporarily suspended to provide opportunities for the public to undergo emission tests in order to control air pollution in Jakarta. Based on data up to October 6, 2023, it was recorded that 1,120,672 four-wheeled vehicles and 119,792 two-wheeled vehicles had carried out emission tests. From the addition of the number of vehicles tested for emissions, Syafrin said that the emission test ticket had been effectively carried out.

"The consideration is that socialization has been massive, free emission tests have also been massive, and there has been a significant increase in the number of tested vehicles," said Syafrin. "This means that as a whole the community is aware of carrying out emission tests. So that when we do the fine, the population will fully carry out emission tests," he continued.
