PALEMBANG - The Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) of South Sumatra Province has begun to control billboards belonging to prospective legislative candidates (bacaleg) who violate the rules. The head of the South Sumatra Bawaslu, Kurniawan, said that in some areas, Baulaleg billboards began to be installed. However, there are also installed billboards that violate the rules, such as including serial numbers, as well as the presence of an invitation to choose. Therefore, South Sumatra Bawaslu coordinates with Satpol PP in districts and cities to curb billboards deemed to have violated these rules. “ We have combed to regulate billboards violating the rules. The areas that are combed are Ogan Komering Ilir (OKI) and Muaraenim Regencies, down to the village level. While other areas will follow,” he said when confirmed in Palembang, Antara, Thursday, October 12. In addition, the South Sumatra Bawaslu has written to political party participants in the socialization of banners and billboards to remind their cadres to follow the rules. "Then, we also ask that if the cadres put up billboards that violate this rule to control it independently," said Kurniawan. Based on the schedule set by the General Elections Commission, the registration of prospective presidential and vice presidential candidates is scheduled to start from October 19 to November 25, 2023. As regulated in Law Number 7/2017 concerning General Elections (UU Pemilu), pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates are proposed by political parties or coalitions of political parties participating in the election who meet the requirements for obtaining seats of at least 20 percent of the total seats in the DPR or obtaining 25 percent of the nationally valid votes in the previous election for members of the DPR.

Currently, there are 575 seats in parliament so that pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates in the 2024 presidential election must have at least 115 seats in the DPR. In addition, candidate pairs can also be promoted by political parties or a combination of political parties participating in the 2019 Election with a total valid vote acquisition of at least 34,992,703 votes.
