The Head of the Riau Islands (Kepri) Health Office (Kadinkes) Mohammad Bisri said that there were no reports of residents being infected with acute respiratory tract (ISPA) although exposure to the smoke from forest and land fires (karhutla) had hit Riau Islands.

"There has been no specific report on the ISPA case because of the smog," said the Head of Health when contacted in Batam, Riau Islands, Monday, October 9, when contacted by Antara.

Kadinkes said that the smog of forest and land fires was sent in Riau Islands on Saturday, October 7 and Sunday, October 8. According to him, the ISPA case in Riau Islands is always there, but there is no drastic increase, especially when the smog was sent began to be detected in the Riau Islands region. This, he said, is likely because there is still frequent rain throughout the Riau Islands region. So that the smog can be reduced and even disappeared. "The ISPA case is always there, but there is no drastic increase. Maybe because in Riau Islands there is still rain too," he said.

However, his party is still monitoring whether there are residents affected by the ISPA or not due to this smog sent. "All the pain data, we continue to monitor it through the surveillance mechanism," he said. He also gave an appeal to the public as an effort to anticipate being exposed to ISPA disease due to the smog. "Drink enough, eat nutritious food, always take care of the body's condition and use a shield such as a mask when outside the house," said Bisri.
