NU Leader Cak Anam Dies At 69 Years Old

SURABAYA - Nahdlatul Ulama figure KH Choirul Anam or familiarly called Cak Anam died at the age of 69 at the Jemursari Islamic Hospital (RSI), Surabaya City, East Java, Monday, at 05.45 WIB.

Cak Anam's younger brother, Mokhamad Kaiyis, stated that before Cak Anam died he had undergone treatment at the Jemursari Hospital for two weeks due to his declining health condition.

"Two weeks of treatment, the condition drops if the doctor says he has nerves Number 9 and 10," said Kaiyis at the funeral home located on Jalan Kutisari Indah Barat IV Surabaya, East Java, quoted by ANTARA Monday, October 9.

Kaiyis added that Cak Anam's health problems made the senior politician from East Java experience limited activities.

"Finally, I couldn't swallow food, I didn't talk at all for those two weeks," he said.

Based on ANTARA's observation at the location, mourners had started arriving since 07.15 WIB and chanted tahlil while waiting for Cak Anam's body to arrive from RSI Jemursari.

Several figures were seen attending the funeral home, such as the Chairman of the Surabaya Chamber of Commerce and Industry Ali Affandi, the Chairman of the East Java PKS DPW Irwan Setiawan, as well as representatives from the East Java Provincial Government and the Surabaya City Government.

At 10.08 WIB, Cak Anam's body arrived at the funeral home and was prayed at the Jamin Kibar Mosque which is located not far from the funeral home.

Furthermore, the body was immediately dispatched to Jombang Regency, East Java, at 12.00 WIB, to be buried.
