DLH Ternate Anticipates Waste From The Dead River To Enter The Sea When It Rains

The Ternate City Environment Agency (DLH) cleans "life times" from waste considering that when it rains, wastewater flows from land and sea so that it can damage biota.

"Indeed, the case of the death of thousands of fish in the waters of Sasa Ternate, influenced by waste from organic waste carried by floods through 'times of death', as a result, marine and fish biota in dead waters," said Head of Environmental Pollution and Damage Control of the DLH Ternate City. In addition, it was found that the Hydrogen Sulfida (H2S) gas from mud and organic waste carried through "times of death" during heavy rains, when it arrived at sea, resulted in dead fish on the coast.

Previously, DLH had received laboratory test results from Water Laboratory Nusantara in Manado City which stated that fish died on the coast of Ternate Beach due to organic waste.

Based on laboratory test results, the cause of thousands of dead fish on the coast of Sasa Ternate Beach is organic waste from two tofu factories and determinant water from the activities of local residents washing. Previously, DLH pocketed samples from tofu factories and checked waste parameter waste from the factory's wastewater treatment plant (ipal).

He explained that the two factories have pocketed ipal. However, the volume of ipal is inadequate for waste shelters, so the next step must increase the capacity so that the retention of wastewater "time" and waste processes are maximized.

This, he said, was to keep marine biota growing and sea waters in Ternate remained unpolluted by organic waste carried by water through "times of death" during heavy rains.

He explained that DLH would deploy personnel together with the local community to clean up the "times to death" area, in order to prevent the population from flooding in the Ternate waters, especially during the rainy season.

"We have deployed personnel to clean up garbage in the area 'times to die', because during the rainy season the water inundated 'times to die' carrying garbage and polluting the beauty of the Ternate sea," he said.

His party every week deploys personnel in waste-prone areas to carry out handling, especially areas "times to die", such as Tuguara and Malio.

He explained that the garbage that accumulated in "times of death" if left alone would be carried away by floods during the rainy season to the sea, thus polluting the local sea.

Therefore, his party hopes that all officials at the village and sub-district levels will carry out intensive supervision, following a lot of garbage scattered in public places.

"We ask that there be awareness from the public in supporting Ternate, a clean city, so that areas that are not empty or 'times to die' are not used as trash bins," he said.
