Medan District Court Judge Sentences To Life In Courier 20 Kg Of Shabu

The panel of judges at the Medan District Court (PN), North Sumatra, sentenced the defendant M. Yacob alias Acob from Aceh to life in the case of being a courier for narcotics weighing 20 kilograms of methamphetamine.

"Trial and bring down the defendant M. Yacob alias Yacob to life imprisonment," said presiding judge Pinta Uli Tarigan at the Medan District Court as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, September 26.

From the facts of the trial, the panel of judges believed that the defendant was proven and guilty of committing a criminal act of Article 114 paragraph (2) of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning narcotics as the primary indictment.

The essence of the article, namely, without rights or against the law offers to sell, sell, buy, accept, become intermediaries in buying and selling, exchanging, and handing over narcotics class I of methamphetamine weighing 20 kilograms.

"The aggravating thing is that the defendant's actions do not support the government's program in eradicating drugs, have the potential to damage the nation's generation and the defendant has enjoyed the income of being a courier, there is no mitigating thing," said Pinta Uli.

The verdict of the panel of judges was lighter than the demands of the Public Prosecutor (JPU) Maria Fr.Br Tarigan charged the defendant M. Yacob alias Acob with the death penalty.

After reading the verdict, the Public Prosecutor of the North Sumatra Prosecutor's Office, Maria, is still thinking about it for seven days to accept or appeal the decision, while the defendant and the defendant's legal adviser appeal.

Separately, Safaruddin, the lawyer for the defendant M. Yacob, respected the verdict read out by the Medan District Court judges.

"We respect the judge's decision, but we will file an appeal as soon as possible," he said.
