The inauguration of Kaesang Pangarep as Chairman of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) was quite surprising to the public. President Jokowi's eldest son can be said to have recently entered politics and joined the party. Many have asked why PSI appointed Kaesang to be the chairman.

Kaesang Pangarep decided to enter politics, but did not follow in the footsteps of his father and brother Gibran Rakabuming as members of the PDIP. Kaesang officially joined PSI on Saturday (23/9). It didn't take long, two days later PSI appointed Kaesang to be the Ketum on Monday (25/9).

Kaesang became a party official replacing Giring Ganesha, who was previously the PSI Board of Trustees. However, many people are curious about the reason PSI appointed Kaesang to be the Head, considering that the 28-year-old man has only stepped into the political pool for three days with PSI.

Grace Natalie, Deputy Chairperson of the PSI Board of Trustees, also raised her voice about the election of Kaesang to become chairman of PSI. Grace revealed that Kaesang was appointed as Chairman because of proposals from regional PSI to the previous PSI chairman, Giring Ganesha.

"Before we start the (Kopdarnas) event, all leaders from 38 provinces gather. And also from Bro Giring also have the same aspiration to hand over baton to Mas Bro Kaesang," said Grace.

Grace also said it doesn't matter if Kaesang Pangarep immediately holds the position of Chairman of PSI. He also said that all party ranks must work collectively to win his party in the upcoming elections.

Furthermore, Grace also said PSI was filled by new people who had recently entered politics. He also said that all cadres in PSI were ready for full support.

"But collegial collective work is a strength. So we are very optimistic that Mas Bro Kaesang will not stand alone. We are all ready for full support to be able to run directly to the 2024 General Election," said Grace.

The advancement of Kaesang Pangarep as chairman of PSI will also provide Jokowi's Effect, according to Denny JA, founder of the Indonesian Survey Circle (LSI). Denny JA is of the opinion that Kaesang's position as Ketum will gain more votes for PSI in the election later.

"Kaesang has not been a PSI cadre for three days, he has not held a public position and no political party top position has ever been led. Then why did PSI leadership choose him as chairman, the answer is only one phrase, namely hoping for 'Jokowi's effect'," said Denny JA through his statement in Jakarta, Tuesday (26/9).

Denny JA assessed that of all the supporters of Jokowi, it is estimated that around 2-5 percent will flow to PSI. He estimates that the additional votes from "Jokowi's effect" will strengthen PSI's passing to the DPR or at least 4 percent of people's support in the 2024 Legislative Election (Pileg).

"It has become public information that the application rating or level of public satisfaction with Jokowi is quite high, around 80 percent. So PSI hopes that by maneuvering Jokowi's son as Chairman, PSI will get Jokowi's effect," said Denny JA.
