Banjar City Police have named a foreigner from California, United States as a suspect in the murder case against his father-in-law in Banjar City, West Java. This foreigner was detained.

"We have secured the suspect, an investigation has been carried out, today we have named him a suspect," said Banjar Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head AKP Ali Jupri as reported by ANTARA, Monday, September 25.

The suspect with the initials AW (34), a foreigner from the United States who married an Indonesian citizen and then lived in Banjar City, was arrested for being reported to have committed a criminal act of persecution to the death of the victim who was his own father-in-law with the initials A (58).

The suspect, he said, took action to kill another person's life in Randegan 1 Hamlet, Raharja Village, Purwaharja District, Banjar City, Sunday (24/9).

"Sunday, September 24, the person concerned committed a criminal act of killing another person's life," he said.

Previously, the suspect was reported in the case of destroying his father-in-law's house, which was not far from the suspect's house and his wife, which he did on September 15, 2023.

The police then processed the vandalism report and did not detain the suspect because the sentence was under 5 years in prison.

However, the suspect in the legal process of vandalism actually committed a criminal act of persecution that caused someone to die, and then the police moved and detained the foreigner.

The results of the temporary investigation of the suspect in the murder of his father-in-law were allegedly because he was annoyed that he always interfered with his household affairs.

As a result of his actions, the suspect languished in the Banjar Police detention cell to undergo legal proceedings and was charged with Article 338 of the Criminal Code with a penalty of 15 years in prison.

"The suspect is subject to Article 338 of the Criminal Code where the threat of a sentence of 15 years in prison. We are still investigating the motive," he said.
