JAKARTA - South Korea's National Security Council (NSC) on Thursday said North Korea and Russia would "pay the price" if they violated United Nations Security Council resolutions.

The council also said it would take seriously the discussions between the two countries regarding possible military cooperation, including the development of intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs).

"The government says any action that threatens our security by North Korea and Russia that violates the Security Council (UN) resolution, there will be a price to pay," the statement read.

Urging Pyongyang and Moscow not to trade weapons, South Korea will on the other hand cooperate with the United States, Japan and the international community to deal with the situation, the council said in a statement.

The message came after the UN DK held a meeting to discuss a summit between North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

South Korea's meeting was attended by senior officials including the foreign minister and also the unification minister, who is responsible for relations with North Korea.

Previously, Unification Minister Kim Young-ho also expressed concern over military cooperation between North Korea and Russia.

It is known that Kim Jong-un's visit to Russia and President Vladimir Putin's meeting were in the international spotlight, focusing on the possibility of cooperation in arms between the two countries.

Asked if the two leaders would talk about getting supplies of weapons from Pyongyang to Moscow, President Putin said they would discuss "all issues".

Separately, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the two countries were cooperating in "sensitive" areas that would not be published, when asked if leaders would discuss weapons, according to the Interfax news agency.
