Sorong Agricultural Quarantine Destroys 51 Kg Of ASF Positive Pork

SORONG - Sorong Class I Agricultural Quarantine Station, Southwest Papua Province destroyed 51 kilograms (kg) of pork which was positive for African Swine Fever (ASF).

The head of the Sorong Agricultural Quarantine Station, I Wayan Kertanegara, explained that the destruction was carried out after the meat was detained on Saturday, September 2, 2023, because it did not have complete documents and it turned out that the pork was positive for ASF.

Apart from pork, he said, several other commodities were also destroyed, including 10 kg of chicken meat without quarantine documents, six chickens without quarantine documents, two pigeons without quarantine documents and a banana tree seed without quarantine documents.

"This destruction needs to be done because these commodities come from areas that are infected with infectious animal disease. Then they do not have complete documents," said Wayan as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, September 12.

He assessed that the commodity product was illegal because it did not complete quarantine documents flown from a number of areas via sea and air transportation.

51 kg of pork, he said, came from Manado. The meat was ordered by a person with the initials DW with the aim of being consumed for a funeral.

"Because we didn't really believe it, we did testing in the laboratory, it turned out that the results were positive for the swine flu (ASF). That's why it must be destroyed, because it is feared that the virus will spread," Wayan explained.

In addition to pork, 10 kg of chicken meat from Ambon, two chickens from Bitung, three chickens from Ambon, one chicken from Bau-Bau, two pigeons from Surabaya and one banana seed from Bula were also destroyed simultaneously by burning.

Kapolsek Airport Area Domine Eduard Osok Sorong, Iptu Taufik A. Prayoga said, to tighten supervision, his party is also working with the Agricultural Quarantine Station through strict inspections, both at passenger terminals and cargo.

"To realize synergy so that Southwest Papua remains green, we are also ready to back up security if needed," said the Head of the Airport Area Police.

Wayan appealed to all communities or business actors in agriculture and livestock as well as wild plants and animals if they passed by to comply with a number of quarantine requirements.

Passing through commodities or animals through places that have been determined by the central government. As well as reporting to quarantine officials in places of expenditure/income for the purpose of quarantine examination, in accordance with Law no. 21 of 2019 Articles 33, 34, and 35.
