Haedar Nashir Wants Presidential And Vice Presidential Candidates To Pay Attention To Environmental Problems Including Waste

YOGYAKARTA - PP Muhammadiyah Chairman Haedar Nashir wants presidential and vice presidential candidates, regional head candidates, and future legislative candidates to have serious attention to environmental waste and safety issues.

"Not for imaging, but for serious thinking and becoming a comprehensive national policy material," said Haedar as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, September 11.

According to Haedar, serious attention to waste problems is very important because the environment and ecosystems from various aspects are damaged so that it becomes a big threat to Indonesia's future.

Haedar said that in cities and villages in Indonesia, rivers, irrigation, and sewers, every village and city, especially around the market, garbage was found piled up scattered in an irregular manner, accompanied by a pungent odor, and spreading pollution that damaged health.

"Large and small rivers are no longer beautiful, especially in the dry season. The river changes from water flow to garbage flow. The river is synonymous with landfills. It is very concerning and terrible," said Haedar Nashir.

The root of the problem with the waste problem, according to him, stems from the attitude of human life or citizens who litter.

Garbage disposal sites that have been classified based on the type of waste material, he said, only technical sections are running in part of the environment.

"The rest are used to throwing garbage as they should. More - more plastic waste is flooding the environment, even though a number of cities are starting to apply plastic-free," said Haedar.

Therefore, Haedar continued, the handling needs to start from every citizen together with the nation's elite to manage waste starting from home properly and not throwing garbage at will.

According to him, it is necessary to develop the best and comprehensive waste management system in all corners of the country.

"The combination of human life and system attitudes will save lives together," said Haedar.

However, according to him, no matter how good the waste disposal site is, when the residents are dirty and keep littering, the waste affairs will remain problematic.

"The environment where we live and live is our only place that must be saved," he said.

He said the earth with its entire environment and ecosystem is the only place where humans live, even though Elon Musk intends to clear new land on Mars, later the planet will also be damaged.
