Mukomuko Agriculture Service Targets Jembrana Vaccine To Hundreds Of Cows In September

MUKOMUKO - The Agriculture Office of Mukomuko Regency, Bengkulu Province, is targeting the administration of vaccines to prevent 1,500 cows in this area from getting Jembrana finished in September 2023. "Of the 1,500 cows targeted for vaccination, as many as 1,000 have been vaccinated against Jembrana, we are targeting the remaining 500 to be completed this week because this activity includes 15 sub-districts," said Head of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health Division of the Mukomuko Regency Agriculture Office Diana Nurwahyudi in Mukomuko, quoted by Antara, Monday, September 11. A total of 1,500 cows targeted for this year's Jembrana vaccination are in accordance with the vaccine quota received by the local government from the provincial government, which is 1,500 doses. Animal livestock and health officers in three animal health centers (Puskeswan) in this area who provide vaccines for cattle owned by residents spread across 15 sub-districts. Village tour officers provide vaccinations as well as visit residents' cattle cages. After the vaccine delivery activity, he hopes that there will still be additional Jembrana vaccine assistance from the provincial government. "We rely on the provincial government to get the Jembrana vaccine," he said. He said this area needed as many as 14,000 doses of Jembrana vaccine in accordance with the total population of cattle in this area, which was 20,000. "The population of cattle in this area reaches 20,000. We should have 14 thousand doses of vaccine or as much as 70 percent of the total population of cattle in expectation," he also said.

He is worried that if there is no additional vaccine from the provincial government, the chances of cattle in this area contracting Jembrana disease are still large. He said, in August 2023 alone there were 38 cows that tested positive for Jembrana, and five of them died. Of the 38 cows infected with Jembrana disease, 30 were found in Ipuh District and eight in Mukomuko City District.
