JAKARTA - Experts from Russia's Center of Comprehensive Unmanned Solutions have created a first-person view interceptor system (FPV), to destroy unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and human transport aircraft at low altitudes, said Center of Comprehensive Unmanned Solutions CEO Dmitry Kuzyakin.
Russia has seen an increase in drone attacks in a number of areas and its strategic facilities, including military air bases, well behind the front lines of fighting with Ukraine.
In fact, a number of buildings in the capital Moscow were hit by drones, although the air defense system was able to bring down or paralyze a number of other drones.
"The company has developed an FPV interceptor system with an operating range of seven kilometers and altitude of up to two kilometers. Important to note, this system can destroy targets flying near the ground," Dmitry Kuzyakin explained as reported by TASS August 29.
"This interceptor has gone through a series of tests at a test site in the Moscow Region, where he repeatedly carried out combat shootings. Its ammunition has limited range of destruction and will not cause any damage on land. This ammunition is also quite efficient in air combat and allows destruction of not only Ukrainian army UAVs, but also low-flying human carriers, which extends the range of tasks that can be applied to this system," he explained.
Kuzyakin added that this system is not seen as a substitute for the currently existing air defense equipment.
"This system acts as a complement to existing tools. This system operates within the closest radius in terms of air defense, around protected installations, which are basically close combat equipment," he added.
It is known, Russia accuses Ukraine of being behind drone attacks on a number of areas and its strategic facilities. However, Kyiv has never openly admitted responsibility for the drone attacks that occurred.

Most recently, British military intelligence said drone attacks on deep airfields within Russian territory had destroyed Russia's Tu-22M3 supersonic long-range bombers, as quoted by Reuters.
The Russian Defense Ministry said the attack was carried out by a Ukrainian helicopter-style drone that was shot down by a light gun fire and no one was injured.
British military intelligence said that if helicopter-model drones were actually used, this would strengthen the alleged attack launched from within Russia, as the drone was unlikely to have the range to reach airfields from outside Russia.
