In 2 Days, the DKI Provincial Government Closed Five Industries Contributing to Air Pollution in Jakarta

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has stopped the operations of five industries in Jakarta in the last two days due to violating environmental permits and polluting air pollution.

On Thursday, August 31, the ranks of the DKI Jakarta Environment Agency imposed sanctions on three coal warehousing and storage (stockpile) companies, namely Bahana Indokarya Global, PT Trada Trans Indonesia, and PT Trans Bara Energy.

Head of the DKI Jakarta Environment Agency Asep Kuswanto said the three companies were given administrative sanctions in the form of government coercion after they were proven to have not completed environmental management which had the potential to pollute the environment, so their operations were temporarily suspended.

"Apart from not completing the environmental management documents, there were several findings of similar violations as the results of yesterday's inspection. It seems that these violations are a classic problem for coal stockpile companies," Asep said in his statement, quoted on Friday, September 1.

The violation took the form of not fully installing nets at the activity site, piles of coal stockpile not being completely covered with tarpaulins, not yet managing runoff water from coal stockpile, not managing domestic waste, traces of burning waste found, and TPS for hazardous waste not complying. with technical provisions.

Even at PT Trada Trans Indonesia and PT Trans Bara Energy, coal deposits and oil spills were also found in the drainage channel leading to the city channel and not having a TPS for domestic waste, as well as traces of burning waste, even cigarette butts in the coal stockpile location.

Asep emphasized that the administrative sanctions given were in line with central government regulations.

"Article 495 of the Republic of Indonesia Government Regulation Number 22 of 2021 states that we have the right to temporarily suspend part or all of our business and/or activities if we find violations of environmental management," said Asep.

Asep also gave an ultimatum to all companies or industries in Jakarta that are still playing games with the environment to immediately improve their management of the surrounding area. Thus, it does not cause environmental pollution.

"We continue to carry out inspections of all industries in Jakarta, and will continue to monitor companies that are trying to damage the environment by neglecting to manage the environment," said Asep.

Not only targeting large industrial factories, the sanctions imposed on the perpetrators of air pollution are also imposed on small businesses owned by residents.

The East Jakarta Environmental Sub-agency temporarily closed the charcoal burning business at Lubang Buaya.

East Jakarta Administration City Environment Sub-agency Head, Eko Gumelar Susanto said, SP 1 was given directly to the business owner. Pemprov DKI also ordered that business buildings be demolished

"Through this letter, the business owner is given a warning to close business activities, dismantle, move and clean the building and all your belongings related to the burning of charcoal at that location within 7×24 hours of receipt of Warning Letter One (SP I)," explained Eko.

Eko explained that SP 1 was given after the East Jakarta Sub-Department of Environment team conducted inspections and monitoring, found facts on the ground that this charcoal burning business pollutes the environment.

"If within the specified time period the business owner does not close business activities, dismantle, move and clean the building, as well as everything related to charcoal burning activities, then the team will carry out controlling actions in accordance with the provisions of the applicable laws and regulations," explained Eko.

Then on Wednesday, August 30, a concrete batching plant (CBP) company in West Jakarta, namely PT Merak Jaya Beton, stopped its operations.

Head of Supervision and Law Enforcement Section for West Jakarta LH Sub-Department, Gamma Nanda Bhaskoro said, during a sudden inspection to PT Merak Jaya Beton, several violations were found at the company's location. This company was also subject to government coercive administrative sanctions.

"PT Merak Jaya Beton has not followed up on fulfilling the commitment by preparing environmental documents. This is closely related to efforts to control air pollution," said Gamma.

In imposing this administrative sanction, the West Jakarta LH Sub-agency forced the company to immediately fulfill the commitments listed in the environmental permit, one of which was to compile the Environmental Management Efforts and Environmental Monitoring Efforts (UKL-UPL) documents.

“The company will be given coercive sanctions from the government. One of these sanctions requires the installation of paranets in locations around the activity area as a measure to anticipate air/dust pollution," said Gamma.
