JAKARTA - Minister of Environment and Forestry (LHK) Siti Nurbaya Bakar stated that 351 industries contributed to air pollution in the Greater Jakarta area (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi).
"In our records, there are 351 business units, including diesel power plants (PLTD)," he said during a working meeting with Commission IV of the DPR in Jakarta as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, August 31.
Siti said the number of priority industries that must be handled is 161 units starting August 28, 2023, and is targeted for completion within five weeks.
The Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) has closed piles that have been proven to emit 11 units of smoke around Lubang Buaya, East Jakarta; and Bantar Gebang in Bekasi, West Java.
As of Thursday morning (31/8), the Ministry of Environment and Forestry has examined 18 industrial units indicated to have carried out air pollution.
According to Siti, the closure of the pollution-producing industry has resulted in an increase in air quality in Lubang Buaya and Bantar Gebang.
"Initially we saw 48 independent PLTU (vapor power plants) and independent diesel power plants. If the PLTU is clear because there has been a report. Then, we studied the PLTD and we are also with all local governments throughout Jabodetabek, then we have a mapping of the source of the problem where it is," he said.
