The 43rd ASEAN Summit Will Be Attended By 22 Countries And 9 International Agencys

JAKARTA - The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN Summit) Summit, which will be held on September 5-7 in Jakarta, will so far be attended by 22 countries and nine international organizations.

Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said the 22 countries consisted of 11 ASEAN member countries, including Timor Leste which will be represented by Prime Minister Xana Gusmao, as well as nine ASEAN speech partner countries and member countries of the East Asian Summit (EAS).

Partner countries and EAS member countries that will attend include South Korea, Japan, India, China, Australia, Canada, Russia, and the United States.

Meanwhile, the international organizations that are confirmed to attend are the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and the United Nations (UN).

"The PBB whose delegation will be led by the Secretary General of the United Nations (Antonio Guterres)," said Retno as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, August 28.

During the three-day forum, President Joko Widodo will chair 12 meetings. On the sidelines of the summit, the president will also hold a number of bilateral meetings.

In addition to the 43rd ASEAN Summit, Jokowi will also chair a meeting between ASEAN and partner countries on September 6, namely the 26th ASEAN-China Summit, the 24th ASEAN-Republic Korea Summit, the 26th ASEAN-Japan Summit, the 11th ASEAN-United States Summit, and the ASEAN-Canada Summit.

On the following day, there will be the 20th ASEAN-India Summit, the 3rd ASEAN-Australian Summit, the 13th ASEAN-United Nations (UN) Summit, and the 18th East Asian Summit (EAS). Prior to the ASEAN leadership summit, a number of ministerial meetings will be held from August 29 to September 4, including the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Meeting (ASCC), the ASEAN Foreign Minister's Meeting (AMM), and the ASEAN Political and Security Community Meeting (APSC).
