Avoiding the Black Campaign, the Attorney General's Office Delays Handling of Executive Candidates and Legislative Candidates Until the 2024 Election

JAKARTA - The Attorney General's Office will postpone the entire examination process for presidential and vice presidential candidates, legislative member candidates, and regional head candidates until the 2024 general election is completed. The reason is so that it will not be used as a tool to bring down the contestants.

"Our goal is to maintain neutrality and not use it for the benefit of black campaigns for other candidates," said the Head of the Attorney General's Office for Law and Law, Ketut Sumedana when contacted, Monday, August 21.

The Attorney General's Office, said Ketut, will prepare technical guidelines for handling election cases. It is possible that the instructions were issued after the General Election Commission (KPU) determined the legislative and executive candidates.

Meanwhile, the postponement of the examination of legislative and executive candidates until the completion of the 2024 elections is the decision of the Attorney General ST Burhanuddin.

The aim is to anticipate the existence of covert intentions that are 'Black Campaign' and have the potential to become an obstacle to the creation of elections that are in accordance with the principles and provisions of the law.

"This was done to anticipate the use of the law enforcement process as a practical political tool by certain parties," said Burhanuddin, quoted from an official statement, August 20.

Then, the Attorney General also asked intelligence officers to map potential threats, disturbances, obstacles and challenges (AGHT) in the general election process as a form of early detection and prevention.

"Immediately take strategic steps in order to create an implementation of general elections in accordance with the principles and provisions of laws and regulations," said Burhanuddin.
