Metro Police Chief Forms Task Force To Eradicate Circulation Of Illegal Guns

JAKARTA - Metro Jaya Police Chief Inspector General Karyoto is said to have formed a joint special task force (Satgasus) to eradicate the circulation of illegal firearms (senpi). The formation of the Task Force was due to the emergence of the phenomenon of criminals using assembled weapons in action.

"On the order of the Regional Police Chief, a joint Special Task Force was formed, the General Criminal Directorate, the Special Criminal Directorate, especially cyber, and Intel to jointly eradicate the circulation of this illegal firearm," said Director of General Criminal Investigation of the Metro Jaya Police, Kombes Hengki Haryadi, quoted on Saturday, August 19.

The phenomenon of the use of guns by criminals is currently changing. Generally, they use assembled rifles.

However, for now it uses modified rifles. Where, airguns are converted into firearms.

In fact, the modified firearms seem easier to get. This is because they often transact via e-commerce.

"It turns out that there is a phenomenon of air gun weapons that we have detected have been turned into firearms, then these manufacturer weapons are sold through the e-commerce platform. But there it is called air soft," said Hengki.

Previously, Polda Metro Jaya and Puspom TNI Army revealed a case of the circulation of homemade firearms (senpi). In fact, dismantled a specialist factory for the modification of senpi.

The involvement of the TNI AD Puspom in disclosing cases of the circulation of senpi is due to the discovery of a mode of using fake membership cards on behalf of the Indonesian Army and the Ministry of Defense.

"The total that we have revealed is the Crime of the Polda Metro Jaya, including collaborating with the Army Puspom some time ago, that is currently approximately 55 illegal firearms," said Hengki.
