Watch Joint Exercises, Puan Asks The TNI To Be Ready With An Era Of Artificial Intelligence

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, witnessed the joint TNI 2023 training (Latgab) which was held in order to increase the preparedness of each Regional Defense Command (Kogabwilhan). He stressed that the TNI has a crucial role in dealing with various potential threats that can disrupt the stability and sovereignty of the Republic of Indonesia.

Puan left for one of the Latgab locations in Banyuwangi, East Java, from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, Jakarta, using an aircraft belonging to the Indonesian Air Force, Monday, July 31.

He left with the Chairman of the MPR Bambang Soesatyo, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD, and the Minister for Administrative Reform and Bureaucratic Reform, Abdullah Azwar Anas and a number of high-ranking TNI officials.

Puan said the Latgab was a proactive step for the TNI in strengthening the country's defense capabilities, maintaining territorial integrity, and providing protection to the community.

"The 2023 TNI Joint Exercise is an important moment for TNI members to continue to improve their professionalism and combat capabilities to deal with potential threats that may arise," said Puan in her statement, Monday, July 31.

Puan also mentioned the development of technology in war. He reminded the TNI to be ready with the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) or artificial intelligence in the military field, especially for tasks that are considered too dangerous for humans to work on.

"As a country that has the best military forces, the TNI must be able to allocate more knowledge to study AI which aims to assist our country's defense system. The TNI must be ready for the Artificial Intelligence era," said the first woman to serve as Chair of the DPR RI.

Puan gave an example of using AI through the role of robotics that has been carried out by the military from various developed countries. For example, the US Air Force (USAF) that flies unmanned jets as 'Loyal Wingman' to accompany human-driven jets.

The unmanned jet is tasked with fighting the enemy, completing missions, or helping pilots do it. According to him, the use of AI technology can minimize potential harm.

"With wise and transparent application, AI can be a very useful tool for the military in protecting the country and increasing global security," said Puan.

Even so, Puan admitted that making an important decision on the battlefield cannot be done by AI. However, soldiers who have high flight hours and integrity will protect the country are able to become the right collaboration in terms of implementing AI in the military field.

"Experience cannot be replaced by technology. Because by feeling it, being directly involved in decision making is a positive side in every potential battle in protecting the country," he said.

Puan also said that the TNI as a means of national defense has a crucial role in dealing with various forms of threats both from within and outside the country to sovereignty, territorial integrity and national safety.

In addition, the TNI also has an important role as the frontline in recovering state security conditions that are disrupted due to security chaos.

"As the Latin saying of the vis pacem, the bellums are meaningful if they want peace, they must be ready for war, of course, this has a very important meaning in this exercise," said Puan.

Furthermore, Puan said that the TNI Latgab provides an opportunity for personnel to thoroughly test the personnel's abilities, and identify weaknesses that need to be improved. Then, said Puan, to strengthen preparedness in the face of future threats.

The former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture also added that the TNI Latgab was not only testing the techniques, tactics, and defense system of the TNI. But also, according to Puan, including testing the readiness of the battle logistics.

"The fighting spirit and the spirit of sacrifice from TNI personnel are reflected in this exercise, which makes the TNI more prepared to face various security challenges that may occur," added Puan.

Overall, the TNI's Latgab is considered an important strategic effort in increasing TNI's preparedness to carry out its duties in maintaining state sovereignty. Puan also said that the TNI's Latgab can help the State maintain national security stability, contribute to humanitarian operations and international peace, and increase solidarity between soldiers.

"In the spirit of patriotism, TNI soldiers jointly practiced, looking forward with unshakable beliefs. Joint exercises became an unshakable pillar in strengthening the tough foundation that protects this country from every threat," he said.
