Mayor Of Surabaya Encourages Cooperative Role In Economic Recovery And Poverty Reduction

SURABAYA - Mayor of Surabaya, Eri Cahyadi, emphasized that the economic strength of the City of Heroes, East Java, lies in cooperatives. He stated that cooperatives continue to move for the benefit of the greater people in the city of Surabaya.

"The cooperative continues to move for the benefit of even greater people in the city of Surabaya," said Cak Eri, Eri Cahyadi's nickname, in a statement in Surabaya on Sunday, July 23.

Mayor Eri also hopes that there will be more cooperative members in the city of Surabaya, and more than that, he also hopes that cooperatives can play an active role in prospering the people in Surabaya through their various movements.

Eri expressed his hope that the Cooperatives Service could synergize with the Surabaya City Government's activities to alleviate poverty. He believes that synergies with cooperatives can help in overcoming the problem of unemployment and poverty in the city of Surabaya.

"I am sure that when it can be done, it will automatically reduce unemployment, poverty reduction can be done in the city of Surabaya. Success is always for cooperatives in Surabaya. Happy National Cooperative Day in 2023," he said.

For example of synergy that can be done, Mayor Eri suggested that in making shoes, the City Government immediately cooperates with cooperatives, not with businessmen or shoe makers. He believes that with this step, reducing the unemployment and poverty rate can be achieved in the city of Surabaya.

Previously, the Acting (Plt) Head of the Surabaya City Small and Medium Enterprises and Trade Cooperatives (Dinokumdag), Dewi Soeriyawati, had conveyed that the commemoration of National Cooperative Day in 2023 with the tagline "Proud to Operate Advanced Indonesia" had been carried out at Surabaya City Hall on Saturday, July 22.

The event included healthy road activities and the MSME bazaar which was attended by 34 cooperatives and 6 PD from the Surabaya City Government. The event also includes the awarding of 14 of the best cooperatives.

Dewi revealed that the 14 best cooperatives that received the award had gone through the assessment stage. Of the 2,005 cooperatives in the city of Surabaya, 150 cooperatives were selected who were considered healthy and quite healthy. Then, competency assessments were carried out on the management of the selected 14 cooperatives.

"Where the assessment is based on a healthy and fairly healthy predicate, 150 cooperatives were selected. Next, the final assessment, with a competency assessment of the elected management of 14 cooperatives," he said.
