The Riau Islands Police (Kepri) arrested two suspects who were trying to illegally send two prospective Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) to Singapore via Batam Riau Islands.
"There are two people who have been named as suspects, namely the initials N (37) and YA (37). These are the ones who took care of the departure from Batam to Singapore and delivered them to an international port," said Head of Sub-Directorate IV of the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimum) of the Riau Police, AKBP Achmad Suherlan in Batam Riau Islands, Antara, Thursday, July 20.
The arrest by the Riau Islands Police officers began with a report on the sending of PMI candidates from East Java and West Java unofficially to Singapore. Receiving this information, the police immediately responded and conducted a search.
"So the two PMI candidates were escorted by YA who works as a taxi driver and also N who acts as an administrator. The two of them together with PMI candidates were secured at one of the shopping centers in Batam on 10 July," he said.
From the disclosure of the case, the police managed to confiscate two passport books, two plane tickets, two cell phones and one airport taxi.
"Currently we have examined the two suspects, while the victim has been handed over to the Riau Islands Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Service Center (BP3MI) for further processing," he said.
The two suspects are subject to Article 81 in conjunction with Article 83 of the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 18 of 2017 concerning the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers as amended in Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 6 of 2023 concerning Stipulation of Government Regulations in Lieu of Law Number 2 of 2022 concerning Job Creation into Law.
