NAGAN RAYA - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Nagan Raya Regency, Aceh, together with a joint team are trying to extinguish land fires in the Suak Puntong Village area, Kuala Pesiri District, local district.

"For the time being, the burned land has reached around 5.5 hectares," said Head of BPBD Nagan Raya, Aceh Province, Irfanda Rinadi, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, July 7.

According to him, the burned land allegedly came from the location of the former forest and land fires that occurred about two weeks ago in Suak Puntong Village, Kuala Pesisir District, Nagan Raya Regency, Aceh.

"The fire is thought to have originated from the remaining coal in the peat," said Irfanda.

BPBD Nagan Raya together with a joint team also deployed three units of water pump engines to extinguish the fire at the fire site.

The teams involved in extinguishing the forest and land fires in Nagan Raya include officers from the Nagan Raya BPBD, Nagan Raya Kodim, Nagan Raya Police, officers from PLTU and the community around the scene.

Irfanda said that as of Friday afternoon, only about 20 percent of the total burned land could be extinguished, reaching 5.5 Ha.

"We are worried that land fires could spread because of peatlands and limited water sources around the fire site," he said.
