The Organizing Committee for Hajj (PPIH) reported that six Hajj people from the Makassar Embarkation died, bringing the total to 20 people.

Public Relations of PPIH Embarkation Makassar Mawardi Siradj said six Hajj people from the Makassar Embarkation died while carrying out the pilgrimage until last Saturday.

"The total number of hajjes that died in Saudi Arabia was 20 people. The six pilgrims who died were recorded from Friday (30/6) to Saturday (1/7). The pilgrims who died came from South Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, and Gorontalo," Mawardi said as quoted by ANTARA, Sunday, July 2.

The origin of South Sulawesi was recorded as nine people, namely Laupe Baco Cido (73) a resident of Bulukumba Regency, Muhammad Jafar Mallawakkang Siama (58) a resident of Gowa Regency, Mari Mantereng (73) a resident of Luwu Regency, Dullah Berahima Seneng (96) a resident of Wajo Regency and Nurmi Pate Mane (73) a resident of Makassar City.

In addition, Ihali Bandung Laggogo (98) from Wajo Regency, Saharia Sidang Danggang (56), a resident of Jeneponto Regency, Burhan Nais Ibrahim Musa (74), a resident of Gowa Regency, and Burhanuddin Abdullah Abbas (67) a resident of Pinrang Regency.

Then, two people from West Sulawesi Province on behalf of Muhammad Jabir Dawile Lamang (78) a resident of Central Mamuju Regency (Mateng), Bora Ganni (88) a resident of Majene Regency. PPIH Embarkation Makassar data states that the Hajj pilgrims departing from the embarkation are 16,889 people, including medical personnel who are companions to each flying group (kloter). The number of groups departing from Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport is 43 groups.

Meanwhile, the total number of pilgrims from Indonesia who died in Saudi Arabia during this year's Hajj season was quoted as saying from the Integrated Hajj Information and Computerization System (Siskohat) of the Ministry of Religion (Kemenag) Hajj.kemenag.go.id as of June 29, 2023, there were 219 people.

The number of deaths of the Hajj pilgrims is higher than in 2022, as many as 36 people, the number based on the cumulative data of the Hajj pilgrims who died until the 37th day of the pilgrimage procession in the Holy Land.
