Garut KPU Finds Bacaleg With Academic Titles Without A Certificate

The General Election Commission (KPU) of Garut Regency, West Java, found a number of prospective legislative candidates who included academic degrees without including a diploma so that they had to improve the requirements for legislative candidates in the 2024 General Election.

"The person concerned included an academic degree without attaching it in accordance with the diploma," said Head of the Garut Regency KPU Junaidin Basri as quoted by ANTARA, Sunday, June 18.

Junaidin Basri said that his party is currently carrying out stages of administrative verification since the deadline for submitting a leg on May 14, 2023. This verification is targeted for completion until June 23, 2023.

The administrative verification process, he said, was almost completed by around 95 percent so that until the deadline the verification could be completed.

"On the 23rd of the final limit at 24.00 WIB. Almost finished, 95 percent," he said.

It was revealed that the provisional results of administrative verification found many requirements regarding the completeness of documents, including those related to the title name on his name that was not in accordance with the diploma given or not included.

In addition, he continued, related to other requirements, namely a physical and spiritual health certificate, then a letter of resignation from a banned profession such as the position of village head which has been regulated in the KPU regulations.

"The physical and spiritual health certificate attaches, but it is not appropriate, the profession is prohibited from becoming a legislative candidate, there has been no resignation letter and statement from the agency concerned," he said.

Regarding the number of legislators that must complete the requirements, said Junaidin, it cannot be conveyed because they are still in the data collection, including the unknown village head in Garut who took part in the democratic party.

He said that the stages of completing the administrative requirements of the legislative leg had quite a long time until July 9, 2023, specifically for balaleg, whose status was still the village head and employees of government agencies, the deadline was until the period of dredging the permanent candidate list (DCT) on October 3, 2023.

Meanwhile, the Garut KPU received 848 baulaleg consisting of 545 men and women more than 30 percent of 302 people from 18 political parties in Garut Regency.
