JAKARTA - The Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Agency (BP2MI) has prevented cases of criminal trafficking in persons (TPPO) and the placement of non-procedural Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) or illegal to Cambodia.
The prevention was carried out by BP2MI together with the Resort Police (Polres) I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport Area, Bali.
"This time in collaboration with the I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport Area Police has postponed the departure of four prospective Indonesian migrant workers who are suspected of being dispatched to Cambodia," said BP2MI Main Secretary, Rinardi at a TIP press conference in Jakarta, Thursday, June 15, which was confiscated by Antara.
He said Cambodia was not a target country for PMI placement to work because it could not provide security for workers.
"From an economic point of view, it is still below us," he said.
He explained that the disclosure of the TIP case began with six people who checked in at Ngurah Rai International Airport to Denpasar-Bangkok on Friday, June 9 at around 10.01 WITA.
His departure was postponed after being questioned at the immigration checkpoint (TPI).
"Then the Ngurah Rai Airport Police conducted an examination, it is suspected that the six people will work in Cambodia via Bangkok," he explained.
The investigation was then carried out by the police together with BP3MI Bali by digging up information from their six on Saturday, June 10.
After being questioned, Rinardi said two people were suspected of being recruiters, while four other victims were invited to work in Cambodia.

"Two suspects with the initials H and S, domiciled in Tangerang, Banten. Meanwhile, the victims, three people came from Banyumas, Central Java and one person from Banjarnegara, Central Java. The four victims were male," said Rinardi.
Meanwhile, the Head of the I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport Area Police, AKBP Ida Ayu Wikarniti, said the victim knew the opportunity to work abroad from social media.
Ida Ayu added that this incident is expected to be a lesson for all Indonesian people.
"It's not that government officials want to prevent citizens from working abroad, but want to protect them. Because there are many cases abroad that end up being victims of our citizens," he said.
