Defendant In Village Apparatus Murder Case At OKU South Sumatra Sentenced To 13 Years In Prison

BATURAJA - Mustafa Kamal, a defendant in the murder case against the Secretary of the Karang Dapo Village Consultative Body (BPD), Peninjauan District, Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Regency, South Sumatra, was sentenced to 13 years in prison in a trial held at the Baturaja District Court.

Head of Public Prosecutor's Office (Kejari) OKU, Erik Eko Bagus Mudigdho said that the verdict itself was lower than the demands of the Public Prosecutor (JPU) who demanded 14 years in prison.

According to Erik, the defendant himself was charged with Article 338 of the Criminal Code concerning murder with a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.

"Actually, when we transferred the second phase of the OKU Police file from the OKU Police to the prosecutor's office, we charged Article 340 of the Criminal Code regarding premeditated murder. However, this article cannot be proven," said Erik, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, June 2.

The defendant himself said Erik, accepted the judge's decision and they did not file an appeal.

Meanwhile, his own party will coordinate first with the leadership to determine what steps will be taken later.

Erik hopes that the Baturaja Detention Center (Rutan) in the future can be more careful in providing remissions or pieces of detention for Mustato.

This was done considering that the defendant was a recidivist with the same case, namely taking someone's life on purpose.

"This defendant has killed people twice. Therefore, we hope that after being sentenced to severe punishment, the detention center will not arbitrarily give remissions to Mustafa Kamal," he said.
