JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin asked the educated, especially the younger generation who received higher education, not to become development brokers. "The younger generation and educated people are a new generation that encourages the spirit of productivity and added value of the economy, instead of becoming a development broker or rent-seeking perpetrator," said Vice President Ma'ruf Amin in Jakarta, Antara, Friday, May 26. Vice President Ma'ruf conveyed this at the opening of the "Alumni Connect Indonesian Student Association (PPI) Dunia" event which was also attended by the Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Bambang Soesatyo and alumni of foreign students. According to Ma'ruf, educational institutions have been believed to be a way for a country to grow rapidly. "Education increases literacy. Literacy increases skills. Capable individuals have more opportunities to get jobs so that the unemployment rate decreases. In other words, education becomes a catalyst for economic growth, job creation and social mobility," said the Vice President. Moreover, in realizing the big vision of becoming a developed country amidst the onslaught of challenges and crises as is happening now, the Indonesian nation is increasingly needing experts in various fields. "Therefore, one of the country's priorities at this time is to ensure the realization of Indonesia's superior human resources. The government wants to create 'production generation' to support the vision of 'producing nation'," added the Vice President. The vice president also asked all stakeholders to work together so that more Indonesians can pursue higher education and become the generation of production. "One of the homework that we have to do is reduce the gap in the quality of human resources. Therefore, we need to work hand in hand to realize equitable development throughout the country, especially in rural areas," said the Vice President. Especially because the current development progress is inseparable from the digital transformation that has disrupted almost all areas of life. "The advancement of technology and digital transformation does make the future increasingly difficult to predict. Nevertheless, countries in the world are racing to increase mastery of technology, and continue to bring out talents in technology and digital fields," said the Vice President.
In the "World Alumni Connect PPI" event, there are 54 foreign student alumni association organizations from 62 PPI countries that will attend on May 25-27, 2023.
