The fire that hit oil palm plantations in Pesisir Selatan Regency, West Sumatra (West Sumatra), spread. From the beginning only one point, now it has become three hotspots.

Head of the South Coast Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Preparedness and Logistics Division (BPBD), Defri Siswanti, said the fire was widespread because the blackout process was hampered by access to the location.

"When the land fire was received on Tuesday (May 23) there was only one hotspot, but today it has increased to three hotspots," he said in Painan, West Sumatra, Wednesday, May 24, which was confiscated by Antara.

He said that currently his party was assisted by the Lunang Sector Police, Danramil and sub-district officials were trying to extinguish the fire, even with makeshift equipment.

The limited equipment was due to the remote location of the incident from the logistics center and the poor communication network, so coordination asked for help was somewhat hindered.

"We hope that today the hotspots can be extinguished," he said.

He said that Silaut is the southernmost sub-district of Pesisir Selatan Regency which is directly adjacent to Bengkulu Province.

The distance to Silaut District from Painan, the capital of Pesisir Selatan Regency, is about 186 kilometers. Meanwhile, Padang is about 264 kilometers.

The area is part of the Independent Integrated City (KTM) of the Lunang-Silaut transmigration area. Most of the oil palm plantation areas on the South Coast are in the area.
