BMKG: Beware Of The Emergence Of 3.5 Meters High Waves In The Bali Strait And Lombok Strait

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Region III Denpasar, Bali, recorded that the wave height in the Bali Strait and the Lombok Strait is relatively high, which is estimated at 3.5 meters so it is necessary to watch out for fishermen and ferry boats on May 14-16, 2023.

"We urge you to pay attention to BMKG information, especially early weather warnings and extreme climates," said Head of BMKG Region III Denpasar Cahyo Nugroho in Denpasar, Bali, Sunday.

BMKG estimates that the wind is blowing from the east-south at speeds of up to 36 kilometers per hour with sunny cloudy weather in general.

Based on BMKG observations, sea wave heights in the waters north of Bali are estimated to reach up to two meters, the southern waters of Bali are estimated to be up to four meters, the Bali Strait and the Lombok Strait up to three meters.

The BMKG analyzes that the weather conditions are caused by sea level temperatures ranging from 26-31 degrees Celsius which are warm to increase the potential for evaporation or additional water vapor masses.

In addition, the wet air mass is concentrated from the surface layer to a layer of 850 millibars or 1,500 meters.

The Bali Strait is a crossing from Bali to Java and the Lombok Strait is a Bali crossing to West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

Meanwhile, other waters in Bali until May 17, 2023, are estimated to have a moderate sea wave height of up to 2.5 meters, including in the Badung Strait which is a marine tourism route, fishermen, and a Sanur-Nusa Penida crossing.

Furthermore, the Bali Sea is estimated to have a wave height of up to 2.5 meters and the Indian Ocean south of Bali is also estimated at 2.5 meters.

The wind speed is estimated to be up to 25 knots or about 46 kilometers per hour blowing from the southeast-south direction.

Based on data from the BMKG Maritime Meteorology Center, wind conditions and sea waves that are at high risk of sailing safety are to fishing boats if the wind speed is more than 15 knots and the wave height is above 1.25 meters.

The barge if the wind speed is more than 16 knots and the wave height is above 1.5 meters and the ferry if the wind speed is more than 21 knots and the wave height is above 2.5 meters.
