JAKARTA - Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, said that the DPR will process the Draft Law (RUU) on the Confiscation of Criminal Assets in accordance with the applicable mechanism.

"We will follow the existing mechanisms in the DPR to carry out any legal processes that are included in the Prolegnas (National Legislation Program) in accordance with existing mechanisms," Dasco told reporters quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, May 11.

This, he said, also applies the same as the DPR processes other bills.

However, Dasco denied that the DPR seemed slow in rolling out the discussion of the Asset Confiscation Bill. He said that the DPR was supposed to wait for steps from the Government because the Asset Confiscation Bill, which has been included in the 2023 Prolegnas, was a proposal from the government.

"We have often heard that the DPR has hampered the Asset Confiscation Bill even though its presidential surpres (presidential letter) and DIM (LIST of Problem Inventory) have never been sent to the DPR, and have just returned to the DPR," he said.

Previously, the Secretary General (Sekjen) of the DPR, Indra Iskandar, said that the draft bill on the Confiscation of Criminal Assets had been received by the DPR on Thursday (4/5).

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has assigned Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD, Minister of Law and Human Rights (Menkumham) Yasonna H. Laoly, Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanuddin, and National Police Chief General Pol. Listyo Sigit Prabowo became the representative of the Government in discussing the bill with the DPR.

As for Tuesday (2/5), Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights Edward Omar Syarif Hiariej revealed that the draft Asset Confiscation Law would be submitted to the Indonesian House of Representatives on May 16, 2023, after the DPR's recess ended.

"It is planned that when it enters the trial period on May 16, it will be submitted to the DPR," said Eddy, the nickname of the Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights.
