Sentenced To 7 Years In Prison In Corruption Case Of Official House Project, Former South Buru Maluku Secretary Files An Appeal

JAKARTA - Former Regional Secretary (Sekda) of South Buru Regency, Sahrul Pawa, filed an appeal against the seven-year sentence in the alleged corruption case in the budget for the rehabilitation of the regional official residence for the 2017-2018 fiscal year.

"Our appeal is made because the panel of corruption judges at the first instance court did not consider the evidence we submitted," said Syukur Kaliki, Sahrul Pawa's legal adviser in Ambon, Maluku, Thursday, May 11, confiscated by Antara.

According to him, the evidence in the form of a house contract submitted by the public prosecutor of the Buru District Prosecutor's Office was not signed by both parties, in this case Sahrul Pawa with Tayib Soulissa.

"The correct house contract is the private house of our client with Tayib Soulissa," said Syukur.

The defendant Sahrul Pawa through his legal advisor has submitted a memorandum of appeal to the Corruption Registrar at the Ambon District Court Office to be forwarded to the Ambon High Court.

Former Secretary of South Buru Regency Sahrul Pawa was sentenced to seven years in prison in a corruption case in the budget for the rehabilitation project for the regional secretary of the 2017-2018 fiscal year for being proven to have violated Article 2 paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 18 of Law Number 31 of 1999 as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning Eradication of Corruption in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) to 1 of the Criminal Code.

At the verdict hearing which took place on Friday, May 5, the Chief Justice of the Ambon Corruption Court, Wilson Shriver, accompanied by two member judges, also sentenced the defendant to pay a fine of Rp250 million, subsidiary to three months in prison and compensation for state losses of Rp814 million, subsidiary to three years and six months in prison.

Meanwhile, Jalil Haulussy as the Commitment Making Officer (PPK) in the project was sentenced to three years in prison, a fine of Rp. 200 million, subsidiary to three months in prison.

The judge's decision was lighter than the demands of the Public Prosecutor's Office, Buru, who demanded that the defendant Sahrul be sentenced to 7 years and six months in prison and a fine of Rp. 250 million, subsidiary to three months in prison and replacement money of Rp. 814.4 million, subsidiary to 3.5 years in prison and confiscated one unit of the defendant's house.

Meanwhile, the defendant Jalil Haulussy as PPK in the project was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison, a fine of Rp. 200 million, subsidiary to three months in prison and determined that the defendant remained in detention.
