Metro Police Deploys 4,200 Personnel To Secure Labor Day

JAKARTA - Metro Jaya Police will deploy as many as 4,200 joint personnel to secure the May Day commemoration which is planned to be held on Monday (1/5).

"About 4,200 of them were held in the field, others such as the Jayakarta Regional Military Command prepared 3,500 to stand by on call," said Kapolda Metro Jaya Inspector General Karyoto when met at the DPR building, Jakarta, Friday, April 28.

This was conveyed by Karyoto during a meeting with stakeholders consisting of the TNI, Polri, ASN, and Satpol PP in preparation for the Labor Day celebration.

"This is a kind of preparation, we are facing the protection of the community event which is considered big, colleagues know, all elements from ASN, Satpol PP, Damkar, TNI, and Polri are here together to describe the situation, from the preparation period to implementation and how to act. we're in the field," he said.

Karyoto also explained that there are a number of points that will be prioritized at the upcoming Labor Day celebration.

"There are two points on the horse statue and in the DPR building, those are the ones with a rather large concentration and also in North Jakarta and East Jakarta," he said.

Karyoto also hopes that the commemoration of Labor Day will run safely, orderly, and under control.

"Hopefully this event will not disturb public order, because with the deployment of workers union members from buffer zones such as Bekasi, Depok, Tangerang, to the capital city to celebrate," he said.

 

The former Deputy for Enforcement of the Corruption Eradication Committee appealed to workers/laborers celebrating to maintain order.

"Of course, we urge that colleagues from workers must also look at the interests of other communities. If they are orderly, the event will certainly be more enjoyable, there will not be many disturbances caused to, for example, traffic jams and so on," he added.

The Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) plans to hold a mass demonstration in front of the State Palace and the Constitutional Court (MK) Building, Jakarta, when commemorating Labor Day 2023 on May 1.

KSPI President, who also serves as President of the Labor Party, Said Iqbal stated that his party would submit five demands and one appeal in their series of actions.

The five demands are the revocation of the Omnibus Law or Law Number 6 of 2023 concerning Job Creation, ratification of the Draft Law on the Protection of Domestic Workers (RUU PPRT), rejection of the Health Bill; revocation of the provisions of the parliamentary threshold or threshold for parties passing parliament of four percent of the total national valid votes, as well as the realization of agrarian reform and food sovereignty.
