Legitimate! DPR Approves Election Perppu To Become Law

JAKARTA - The Indonesian House of Representatives approved the Draft Law on Stipulation of Government Regulations in Lieu of Law Number 1 of 2022 concerning Amendments to Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections or Election Perppu passed into law. The decision to ratify the Election Perppu into a law was taken at the plenary meeting of the DPR RI, Jakarta, Tuesday, April 4. The meeting was chaired by the Chairman of the DPR RI, Puan Maharani. After listening to a report from Commission II of the DPR RI, Puan then asked the meeting participants whether the Perppu could be approved as a law by members of the council. The council members who attended also agreed. "Can the Bill on Stipulation of Government Regulations in Lieu of Law (Perppu) Number 1 of 2022 concerning Amendments to Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections be approved to be ratified into law?" asked Puan Maharani. "Agreed," said the meeting participant. Previously, the Chairman of Commission II of the DPR Ahmad Doli Kurnia to submit his report. Doli revealed that all factions in Commission II of the DPR unanimously accepted the Election Perppu Bill. "All factions unanimously agreed to approve and accept the Bill on Stipulation of Government Regulation in Lieu of Law (Perppu) Number 1 of 2022 concerning Amendments to Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections into Law and continue its discussion in the level II decision-making process at the DPR RI plenary meeting," said Doli. "We hope that with the adjustment and change of several norms in Law number 7 of 2017 concerning Elections, it is hoped that the organizers of the Election stages are appropriate," he continued. Meanwhile, the government represented by the Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian expressed his gratitude to the DPR RI for giving his approval to the Election Perppu Bill to be ratified into law. Furthermore, he said, the government would issue a law after receiving a letter from the DPR RI. "Allow us on behalf of the government to express our highest gratitude and appreciation to the leadership and members of the DPR RI, especially Commission II of the DPR who worked effectively to complete the Draft Law on Stipulation of Government Regulations in Lieu of Law Number 1 of 2022 concerning Amendments to Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections into Laws," Tito said in a plenary meeting.

"Although there is a process of discussion dynamics, almost all differences can be reached at the point of agreement. After receiving a letter from the DPR RI, the government will soon issue a law on Stipulation of Government Regulations in Lieu of Law (Perppu) Number 1 of 2022 concerning Amendments to Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections into Law," he continued.
