Mount Anak Krakatau Erupts, Lontarkan Abu Volcanic As High As 2,000 Meters

JAKARTA - Mount Anak Krakatau is back in the eruption. The mountain in the waters of the Sunda Strait, Lampung, which borders Banten, vomited volcanic ash as high as 2,000 meters from above the peak.

"There was an eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at 07:43 WIB. The height of the eruption column was observed to be ~ 2,000 m above the peak (whether 2,157 m above sea level)," as quoted from the official website of the Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG), Tuesday, March 28, confiscated by Antara.

The ash pond was observed to be black with thick intensity leaning towards the northeast. This eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 65 mm and a duration of approximately 1 minute 58 seconds.

Head of the Mount Anak Krakatau Monitoring Post in Hargopancuran, Rajabasa District, South Lampung, Andi Suardi, appealed to the public, fishermen not to approach the Mount Anak Krakatau area at a radius of 5 km.

"Currently Mount Anak Krakatau is at level III on standby with the recommendations of the community, fishermen, mountain climbers, not approaching the mountain with a radius of 5 kilometers," Andi said when contacted from Bandar Lampung.
