Rumors Of Daft Punk Will Reunion At The 2024 Paris Olympics Finally Answered

JAKARTA - Officials responded to rumors about Daft Punk returning to appear at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Tuesday, October 24, director of the opening ceremony of the Olympics, Thomas Jolly, stated in an interview at French radio station France Inter that the electronic duo will return to appear at the event.

'Daft Punk will be very happy to be a part of the ceremony,' he explained (via distantis). You can't help thinking about Daft Punk when you think of successful international shows for French groups.

'I lied a little bit about Daft Punk. So it's finished, it's not being negotiated. We got the news!' Jolly added.

However, the director clarified in an official statement issued Wednesday that the band "will not be returning for the Olympics" next year.

"My comments are confusing and raise a lot of expectations," he wrote on X/Twitter (translated from French)

I have to clarify: After discussing the possible attendance at the ceremony, the group's decision is not to participate. I respect this decision and apologize for the ambiguity of my comments.

Elsewhere, Le Parisien reported Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo of Daft Punk met with the organizing committee of the ceremony a few months ago but no official agreement was agreed upon.

Jolly told the outlet: "Unifying Daft Punk is clearly one of the first ideas I have. They are very talented and have a great international aura. But do they want to reform at the end of their career, when they seriously announce their separation?"

We have to respect their history. Their artistic desire to pursue their respective careers is sacred. If they decide the day before [to appear], we will find a place for them.

The opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics is scheduled to take place on 26 June.
