This Rare Classic Car Has Just Been Sold For IDR 15 Billion

JAKARTA - One of Maserati's classic cars, Maserati 5000 GT Indianapolis Coupe in 1961, has just sold for more than $1 million through the Bring A Trailer auction site.

This car is one of only 34 couple 5000 GTs ever produced, and there are only 22 that use the Carrozzeria Allemano body by Michelotti. Not only that, this model is also the only "Obligic" model produced, as a tribute to Maserati's success in Indianapolis 500. No wonder the selling price is so fantastic.

Maserati 5000 GT is a historic vehicle from Maserati that is even dubbed the "Car for the King". The first vehicle of this model was ordered by Shah Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, who wanted a version of 3500 GT with a V8 engine from a 450S race car.

Maserati 5000 GT was first launched in 1959 and produced this luxury model for the next seven years for buyers around the world.

Reporting from Carbuzz, July 20, this car that was sold also has a unique history. The car has serial number 103,014 and was completed in September 1961. Furthermore, the car was photographed and included in the 5000 GT brochure and became the cover of Auto Italiana magazine before finally being sold to entrepreneur William H. Brown from Pittsburgh.

Brown received the vehicle in Italy and drove it across Europe before sending it back to America for several years, then sent back to Italy for maintenance. After that, the car was sold to a owner in Tuscany in 1967, then returned to an American owner in 1975, and imported to the UK in 1980. In 1996, this model was purchased by collector Maserati, John F. Bookout Jr., who then made complete repairs to the vehicle in 2001. Finally, in 2016, the car was sold to its last owner before the resale of the Bring A Trailer auction site.

As a model of "Obviously", this vehicle has a distinctive feature in the form of a horizontal rowing goal and the words "Obviously" on each wing. When repaired, this car was dismantled into metal pieces before finally repainting it with the original Grigio Montebello color, and its entire interior was re-launded with red skin. In addition to repairs to the body, repairs were also made to the 4,941cc-capacity V8 engine with four distinctive noc cams, as well as using Luca's mechanical fuel injection system and double Cities, all combined with four-acceleration manual transmission.

Well, the question of the price when sold which exceeds 1 million dollars is still considered quite cheap. The reason is, when someone last sold the same model in 2016, it was able to sell for 1.6 million dollars. This is an indication that the used car market has indeed started to decline after the last few years. Even so, investment in this car is still considered better than buying the latest MC20 Maserati.
