Welcoming Asian Films, Kenduri Serumpun Melayu Film Festival 2023 Ready To Be Held

JAKARTA - Kenduri Serumpun Melayu Film Festival, an international film festival for Serupun Melayu countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, and Brunei Darussalam) will be present on October 11-14, 2023 at the Arena Theater, Jambi Cultural Park.

The first year of Kenduri Serumpun Melayu Film Festival was supported by the Directorate of Film, Music, and Media of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology to make it the theme of the festival in the fighting spirit to re-trace the identity of our nation as part of the Malay Serumpun.

"This big meeting aims to strengthen communication and information on film networks in Sumatra, open the potential of the film industry as an economic goal, collect data and mapping of film actors and ecosystems, increase human resource capacity, recommend legal policies and guarantees for strengthening regional film institutions," said Anton Oktavianto as the Festival Director of Kenduri Serumpun Melayu Film Festival 2023.

Kenduri Serumpun Melayu Film Festival has a main program and a special program. The main program is a feature program for featureing feature films and short films from Indonesia and the countries of Serupun Melayu, which are divided into 4 program categories, namely Perspective, Badminton, Back to Roots, and Looking To Roots.

The 'Perspective' program is a short film screening program for Serupun Melayu countries, which focuses on personal layers, the process of finding identity, from various perspectives. The Manuscrip' program is a short film screening program for Indonesian documentarys that talks about Malay khazanah from historical record archives, civilization to science and culture in the Malay manuscript.

Then there is the 'Back To The Roots' Program which will screen short-fiction films from Indonesia which contain the values of the movement of the Malay people, in returning to the 'roots' of their identity. Meanwhile, the Looking At The Roots' program is a special program for the screening of Indonesian classic films that talk about Malay.

Kenduri Serupun Melayu Film Festival also held two special programs, namely the Discussion Program and Workshop Program. The Discussion Program consists of Rembuk Melayu and Nganggung Sedayang, which is a discussion forum for the film community with various national film stakeholders which are expected to be a bridge to convey aspirations for the advancement of the Serupun Melayu film.

For the main program, currently Kenduri Serumpun Melayu Film Festival has received a total submission of more than 100 short and long films from various countries of Serupun Melayu. Meanwhile, for discussion programs, more than 50 communities have been registered throughout the Serumpun Melayu area, which will later depart for Jambi to participate in various programs of Kenduri Serumpun Melayu Film Festival, said Muthi'ah Khairunnisa as the Director Program of Kenduri Serumpun Melayu Film Festival 2023.

Kenduri Serum Melayu Film Festival also celebrates cultural activities at this festival. We can watch Jambi and Hikayat Traditional Dance Cultural Performance Aceh, enjoy melayu culinary, attend the Aceh secretion Exhibition, and participate in cultural tours at the Jambi Cinema Museum and Muaro Jambi Temple.
