President Jokowi Inaugurates Airport Operations In Fakfak And Nabire
JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated the operation of Siboru Fakfak Airport, West Papua, and Douw Araturure Nabire Airport, Central Papua, to improve transportation connectivity in the local area.
"Alhamdulillah, this afternoon we will immediately inaugurate the operation of Siboru Airport in Fakfak and Douwaturure Airport in Nabire," said President Jokowi at the inauguration of the airport in Fakfak Regency, reported by ANTARA, Thursday, November 23.
President Jokowi said transportation access in Papua is not easy, because there are still many areas that are difficult to reach by the community. Not infrequently, people need time to travel for hours and even days to get to an area.
According to the President, the development of the development and economic sectors in Papua which is increasing requires better facilities and transportation facilities.
"The Siboru Airport and Douwaturure Airport that we inaugurate today will increase connectivity in Papua, increase people's mobility, increase the mobility of goods, and open up many opportunities to trigger the growth of the new economy, new businesses," he said.

The President said Siboru Airport would become an air bridge in West Papua to connect Fakfak, Sorong, Timika, Kaimana, Amahai, Dobo, Bintuni, and a number of other areas.
Douwaturure Airport in Central Papua Province also connects Nabire with several cities in Papua such as Timika, Manokwari, and Jayapura.
"I ask local governments, people can take advantage of this airport as well as possible, take advantage of access that is increasingly open to introducing potentials in our area," he said.
President Jokowi hopes that the presence of the airport can increase the activity of various tourist destinations and increase tourist visits to the Land of Papua.
