DPR Ready To Host Parliamentary Meeting 5 Middle Power Countries
JAKARTA - The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, confirmed that her institution is ready to lead the meeting at the 9th Middle power Migrant Court of Mikta Speakers. As the host of the 5th parliamentary meeting, the DPR will emphasize the issue of multilateralism for MIKTA members in dealing with geopolitical problems in the world.
"MIKTA has the ability to focus more on certain issues that are urgent and have significant impacts. Thus, Indonesia can raise various geopolitical issues for the advancement of the world," said Puan, Saturday, November 18.
MIKTA is a group of middle power countries consisting of Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkey, and Australia. While the Mikta Speakers' Consultation is a consulting forum for the Speaker of Parliament members of the MiKTA.
Given that Indonesia holds the chairmanship of MIKTA in 2023, the DPR acts as the host of the 9th Mikta Speakers' Consultation which will be held at the Kempinsky Hotel, Central Jakarta on November 20. In this year's MIKTA chairmanship period, the DPR carries the theme Strengthening Multilateralism, Addressing Intergeneral Challenges.
Puan said, the Mikta Speakers' Consultation can be a bridge between developing countries and developed countries in responding to various global challenges amidst differences in the views of each country.
"The challenges faced by the world today are intergenerational in which these challenges not only have an impact on today's life but also on future generations," said the former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture.
With the spirit of reform for the global government system, Puan believes MIKTA will continue to encourage and strive to strengthen multilateralism to answer world challenges.

"MIKTA allows Indonesia to cooperate with partners with similar interests and values, strengthen the collective position of the group in global geopolitical dynamics," said Puan.
The first woman to serve as Chair of the DPR RI continued, Indonesia's membership in MIKTA also opens up opportunities for cooperation with other middle power countries. Although each country has a different view, said Puan, this can be used as a strength if every MIKTA member can make good use of it.
"This provides an opportunity for Indonesia to unite with peer-partners and have a shared impact on global issues without having to rely on large and complex structures like the United Nations," he said.
Furthermore, Puan said MIKTA has a unique position in facing regional and global challenges. She hopes that the meeting of the chairmen of the MIKTA parliament in Jakarta can further strengthen the position of middle power countries, especially since Indonesia is now considered a country whose economy has the potential to grow more advanced.
"I hope that in this meeting, MIKTA can also strengthen cooperation, creative collaboration and produce policy recommendations that can solve the challenges of different views between countries and between generations that prioritize the vision and mission of multilateralism," explained Puan.
He added that the 9th Mikta Speakers' Consultation will focus on discussing various issues regarding better global governance. In particular, according to Puan, in aspects that are targets of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) or sustainable development goals such as food security, supply chains, poverty and climate change.
"Three areas that are a priority during Indonesia's chairmanship at MIKTA are strengthening multilateralism, inclusive recovery, and digital transformation. These things are the priority discussions for the DPR in this MIKTA parliamentary consultation forum," explained Bung Karno's grandson.
